I was so fortunate to be able to visit such a lovely little town along the California coast this month and teach my Dreaming In Script – Part I calligraphy workshop covering the fundamentals of Engrosser’s Script calligraphy. Our incredible hosts, Hive & Hum, had an absolutely breathtaking space prepared for us and we definitely hope to be back. Here are some photos from the wonderful day!
Looking over mid-class progress with Gary!
Getting table time with people around the room is SO important.
Roxy, the class mascot isn’t impressed with the Five Foundational Shapes.
Benny hadn’t taken a class before. She did incredible all day long! Absolutely a natural engrosser.
Roxy is a service dog in training, so she was SO well behaved! Thanks again for bringing her, Cynthia!
Demonstrating a couple of forms. An interesting perspective on my workshop posture. haha.
We ran the class without a projector, and I think working on a blackboard feels much more connected with the students than sitting behind a camera.
A heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended. I hope to see you all again, and that you had as much fun as I did! Thank you again to our wonderful hosts, Jodi and Gary and their wonderful shop for all the hard work that went into organizing something like this. It definitely shows your intention and appreciation for the arts!
I attended David’s Dreaming in Script Part I in Santa Cruz last week. It’s my first workshop and I was a little bit nervous, but David made the workshop fun and really enjoyable. I learned a lot about the basic Engrosser’s Script. David taught us the 5 important basic strokes and how to form letters by them. He also pointed out some other important details like how to hold and adjust the pen, the space between the letters which I think these are very important and useful information for anyone who starts learning Engrosser’s script. My favorite part about taking this workshop was when I had him checked and corrected my work so I knew what I did wrong and how to improve it. I will definitely sign up for Dreaming Script Part II if David makes it back to NorCal!
