Long-form calligraphy courses for the slow-burning learner
DIS Courses are long-form learning experiences that span several months. Each course is opened once a year with limited seating. Students are led through the subject matter methodically over the course of several months with time for practice, feedback, and improvement. These experiences are designed for serious hobbyists and professional calligraphers who are taking their work to the next level.
Annual DIS Courses
Engrosser’s Script — This is the primary DIS course that begins each year on April 1st. It is a cohort-based experience that walks learners from the very beginnings of pointed pen to the point where they can use their Engrosser’s Script for personal or professional projects.
Offhand Flourishing — An eight week course beginning on June 15th that covers the foundation of traditional Offhand Flourishing using time-tested techniques. Learners will walk away from this course with the ability to employ whole arm movement in the production of graceful, dashy flourishing for ornamenting their designs.
French Roundhand — An eight week course beginning on September 1st that introduces penmen to the broad pen through the DIS methodology. By the end of this course, learners walk away with the confidence to employ their broad pen in producing handsome French Roundhand lettering.
