About this collection

This page is dedicated to presenting historical information regarding the great American penmen of 19th and 20th centuries. Many of these individuals were leaders of industry, published authors, artists, entrepreneurs, and outstanding members of their communities. At the same time, they were real people, with real faults, vices, and shortcomings. Our aim is not to celebrate them as heroes, but rather for the people they actually were. Their accomplishments measured without the succor of embellishment stand proudly stoic over a century later. From the point of their pens, our history was written with glorious ornament. The question is: What are we going to with it?
